Arizona stages one of the earliest competitions in the Senior Games cycle. One strategy many competitors use is to participate in a qualifying event early in the season to either qualify or get a time to see how their training is coming along. Since Arizona gets pretty hot during the spring and summer, running a track meet in February is a pretty good thing.
The Arizona Senior Olympics is open to out-of-state competitors.
From AZ Senior Olympic materials:
Competition is in 5 year age groups: 50-54, 55-59, etc… Age will be determined as of (day of competition).
Sole competitors in an age group will compete in the next lower age group. Awards are by age.
Age division of relay teams will be based on the age of the youngest team member as of (day of competition).
